the best european landscape architects present at the landscape arena event

CHRIS BEARDSHAW, JO THOMPSON and TAINA SUONIO – the ones of the best landscape architects and experts in the world – they was, undoubtedly, the stars of the LANDSCAPE ARENA event.

Premiere edition took place on 13 -14 February 2020. This was an amazing opportunity to meet in one place foreign talented designers and landscape architects. The event involves presentations, lectures, shows as well as workshops run on few stages of the fair pavilion, organised by the International Garden and Landscape Architecture Fair GARDENIA 2020 available at the International Poznan Fair. 

The aim of the LANDSCAPE ARENA event is to provide an opportunity for garden industry professionals to share knowledge, experience and learn current trends in the industry. The agenda consists of a few practical workshops and shows organized in such a way so that all participants can compare their experience at the event – said Tomek Ciesielski – the founder of the FRACTAL Foundation and the organizer of this event.

INTERNATIONAL STARS

CHRIS BEARDSHAW Six-time winner of the Royal Horticultural Society – Best Show Garden”a five-time winner of Audience award at the RHS shows. He is also a thirteen-time RHS gold medal winner. 

Chris is also known for his long TV career, which started in 1997 at BBC2 when working on such TV programmes as “Gardener`s World”„Hidden Gardens” and a very famous „The Flying Gardener”. He started his career 18 years ago and since then he has designed a number of private gardens stretching from Great Britain to New Zealand. 

Author of many books, for example “100 Plants that Almost Changed the World”, which won the Independent Publishers award in the USA. He is also an author of many articles in prestigious garden and lifestyle magazines.

JO THOMPSON is a well-known designer, a British prize winner of the „Best of Show” and recognized by the press as one of the most talented designers. The “House & Garden” – an opinion-forming monthly magazine considers her as “a leading modern designer” and “the best countryside garden designer”. 

The “Society of Garden Designers” announced her as a “Designer of the Future” in 2014. Jo Thompson is an owner of the „Best of Show” – the most prestigious award, which she won for designing a garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2010. She is also a four-time gold and five-time silver medal winner at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. 

In 2017 she won the “Audience award” during the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show competition. She is a member of the RHS Gardens Committee and the Garden Advisor for RHS Rosemoor as well as a member of the RHS Show Gardens Selection Panel.    

TAINA SUONIO is a prize-winning designer from Finland. Taina is a silver medal winner at the Chelsea Flower Show 2019 for her „Roots in Finland – Kyrö Garden”

For over fourteen years she has been working with prominents British garden designers, for example, with Carol Klein, Andy Sturgeon, Thomas Hoblyn, Paul Stone, Nigel Dunnett, Catherine MacDonald, Mark Gregory. During these years she has been in charge of teams responsible for planting gardens prepared for international exhibitions at the Chelsea Flower Show and the Hampton Court Flower Show

Taina is a Development Engineer (of green roofs and green city areas) in the city of Vantaa located in the capital city region of Finland. Her scope is to maintain all roof gardens and green areas in the city.  She is also very occupied with her own project „Roslings Manor Gardens”. Her well-known projects are in Vantaa available at the National Housing Fairs premises or “The Greenest of the Green block” in Helsinki in the West Harbour, which consists of green roofs, garden of kitchen biodiversity, forest garden and a garden on a barge. 

Taina worked with professor Nigel Dunnett on creating “Magical and Dreamy” garden on the roof of the Barbican Centre in London.

Who is behind this ?

The organizer of the LANDSCAPE ARENA event is the Fractal Foundation. The Foundation is responsible for educational projects mainly in the area of protecting cultural and natural heritage. The Foundation is also the organizer of, for example, “Weekend Otwartych Ogrodów” (Open Gardens Weekend) or “Zielony Fyrtel” (Green Area), which does not only promote taking care of the natural environment but also makes people more sensitive to nature and builds long-lasting social relationships. 

International Garden and Landscape Architecture Fair GARDENIA 2020 organized by the MTP Group at the premises of the International Poznań Fair is a partner of the LANDSCAPE ARENA event. This is one of the biggest Polish fair for producers of: plants, seeds, soil, garden chemicals, garden utensils, watering and small garden architecture equipment.  

Designing in practice

The aim of the LANDSCAPE ARENA event is to present the newest trends in the design industry as well it is a place for professionals to share their views and knowledge. All participants will have an opportunity to attend presentations where the most renowned architects of the European garden shows will talk about their experience. The new item of the ARENA agenda is a review of Polish landscape architects portfolios run by special guests from Great Britain, Finland and China. 

On top of the presentation there will be cutting trees and bushes show specially prepared for this event by BYCZKOWSCY’s Ornamental Tree Nurseries as well as cutting and maintaining roses prepared by ROSARIUM Rose Nursery. There will be also a place for workshops about maintaining fruit trees and bushes. Arboretum BOLESTRASZYCE is a partner of these workshops.

LANDSCAPE ARENAis a new event in the garden industry, which mainly targets professionals. Designers, landscape architects, students of Garden and Architecture Studies, gardeners as well as park and promotion departments employees have been invited to this event.
